Job Description

The University of Delaware Career Center (UDCC) is seeking a detail-oriented, professional, and motivated student assistant to join our team. This position provides administrative and peer support in a dynamic office that serves undergraduate and graduate students.

Applicants will perform a variety of tasks involving front desk administrative support, peer advising and document reviews. A strong emphasis is placed on the professional development of all UDCC student staff. Applicants will also have opportunities to present career workshops to student groups and staff information/activity tables at various campus events. Applicants must be available to work weekday afternoons during the Fall and Spring semesters with an average of 8 hours per week.

Work-Study eligible students preferred.

Primary Responsibilities:

Peer Consultant
  • Review resumes, cover letters, and Linked In profiles during virtual and in-person drop-ins.
  • Provide appropriate feedback during online and in-person document reviews.
  • Refer students to relevant Canvas modules and Career Center resources.
  • Support special projects and career programming, including tabling, workshops, and event coverage (e.g., Career Fairs).
  • Participate in required training sessions and professional development opportunities.
Secondary Responsibilities:
Front Desk Support
  • Serve as a courteous, efficient, and professional representative of the Career Center.
  • Greet visitors and provide accurate information and referrals regarding UDCC programs, services, and campus resources.
  • Manage appointment and drop-in check‑in process.
  • Perform routine administrative tasks while maintaining strict confidentiality.
  • Maintain an organized and welcoming reception area, ensuring materials and displays are current.
  • Support staff with projects, research, and additional administrative tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Professionalism:
    Maintain confidential materials, arrive promptly to scheduled shifts, dress in business casual and UDCC‑provided apparel, communicate with supervisors regarding any impending absences.
  • Communication skills:
    Ability to provide verbal and written feedback to peers, graduate students, and alumni. Excellent customer service skills, offering follow up when needed.
  • Willingness to learn:
    Develop familiarity with the UDCC Canvas site and career resources. Show initiative and a genuine desire to help UD students succeed.
  • Technology:
    Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Google Docs, Zoom video conferencing.
