Summary Statement:
Incumbents tutor individual students to support and reinforce classroom learning activities.
Nature and Scope:
Incumbent works under the direction of the Dean, course Instructor, or other person assigned to coordinate tutoring activities. In cooperation with the classroom instructor, incumbents tutor in basic, pre-tech, and/or catalog courses to facilitate an individual student’s academic progress.
- Tutors students on a one-to-one basis and prescribes alternate learning resources.
- Takes inventory of materials and equipment.
- Monitors a student’s academic progress by utilizing prescribed assessment tools.
- Attends orientation and training sessions as requested.
- Completes and submits to supervisor monthly reports of tutoring and related activities.
- Scheduled tutoring sessions in consideration of the student’s needs and availability.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of relevant subject matter in the discipline in which the student is to be tutored.
- Knowledge of learning resources and teaching methods.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Good oral communication skills.
Minimum Qualifications:
Associate’s degree in a relevant field or other equivalent combination of education and experience.
