Teacher of Adults - Adult Basic Education Instructor

Qualifications:
Hold a current Delaware educator license and applicable certification, or a valid Delaware Adult Basic Education (ABE) Level I or Level II Permit, as required for employment in an Adult Education program. Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university. Minimum of two years of successful experience teaching K–12 students and/or adult learners. Knowledge of and ability to implement instruction aligned with the College and Career Readiness Standards (CCRS).
Ability and willingness to effectively utilize Essential Education, Aztec, and other program-approved instructional resources. Strong written and oral communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Ability to work effectively in classroom, hybrid, virtual, and/or community-based instructional settings. Willingness and ability to work non-traditional hours, including evening hours, based on program needs. Salary: $35.00/hr hours of Employment:

Position
Description:
The ABE Instructor provides instruction to adult learners seeking to improve foundational academic skills in reading, writing, mathematics, and other areas of Adult Basic Education. The instructor provides instruction to students with varying educational backgrounds, academic skill levels, and learning needs, including students preparing to earn the GED® credential. The instructor is responsible for planning and delivering instruction aligned with the College and Career Readiness Standards (CCRS) and Adult Education program expectations.
In addition to academic instruction, ABE instructors support students in developing workforce readiness, digital literacy, civics, and financial literacy skills as appropriate to student needs and program goals.
Responsibilities:

- Plan and deliver instruction aligned with the College and Career Readiness Standards (CCRS) based on student needs, assessment results, and Adult Education program expectations.
- Utilize Essential Education, Aztec, and other program-approved instructional resources to support individualized instruction and student achievement.
- Incorporate workforce readiness, digital literacy, civics, and financial literacy into instruction and learning activities as appropriate to student needs and program goals.
- Ensure students are appropriately referred for required pre- and post-testing in accordance with Department of Education testing policy.
- Review and analyze student assessment results and use the data to identify instructional needs, establish learning goals, plan instruction, and monitor student progress.
- Maintain an instructional focus on helping students achieve measurable educational functioning level gains and NRS performance targets.
- Monitor individual student progress and communicate concerns regarding student performance, persistence, attendance, or barriers to success to appropriate program staff.
- Complete required weekly, monthly, and other program data collection and reports accurately and within established timelines.
- Identify barriers that may interfere with student participation or progress and refer students to appropriate program or community resources when necessary.
- Use educational technology, online teaching platforms, virtual instructional tools, and digital resources to support instruction and student engagement.
- Participate in required staff meetings, professional development, training, and other activities sponsored by the Adult Education program, Christina School District, and/or the State of Delaware.
- Maintain professional knowledge and effective practices related to Adult Basic Education, College and Career Readiness Standards, GED® preparation, assessment, data-informed instruction, workforce readiness, digital literacy, civics, financial literacy, Essential Education, Aztec, and NRS performance expectations.
