Mechanical Engineer, Process Engineer
Technical Staffing Resources is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to work with one of the largest EPC firms in the country. This is a short-term contract position located in Newark, DE.
Job DescriptionResponsible for design, specification, selection and services relating to mechanical equipment such as rotating machinery, pressure vessels, atmospheric storage tanks, fired and unfired heat transfer equipment, utility equipment, packaged units, material handling and solids processing systems. May also include design, specification, selection and services of mechanical systems for buildings such as gases, fluids, and heating, ventilating, air conditioning and pneumatic conveying systems.
Skills are typically acquired through an undergraduate degree in Engineering and a minimum of 7 years related experience, with average experience of 10 years. Key responsibilities at this level include tactical support of one or several projects acting as a ‘responsible engineer’ for a wide range of mechanical equipment packages normally found in biofuels refineries, green chemical technology, and other decarbonization technologies.
Responsible engineer role provides all inter-discipline design coordination to ensure successful installation and commissioning of their process equipment, proactively manages supplier design coordination and shop non-conformance reports / inspections, provides project with status updates on critical equipment and input to the construction work packages.
- Support large capital projects on an as needed basis for a period of 3-6 months.
- Develop and manage the preparation, review and checking of mechanical specification packages in accordance with Client requirements and industry best practices.
- Manage and successfully influence the entire procurement life cycle while working closely with all disciplines.
- Maintain positive relationships with clients, vendors, and contractors in a professional manner.
- Coordinate all equipment supplier activities through initial selection to shop testing and shipment to site.
- Participate in department training programs, office wide employee resource groups, attend technical seminars and help arrange technical training for the department when requested.
- Preferred Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering or another related field.
- 7 years (minimum) of experience in the EPC industry or chemical / biofuels operating companies. Will consider experience with chemical site team or project engineering backgrounds in related industries. Operations / Maintenance and Reliability experience is a plus.
- Professional Engineering License (P.E.) is preferred but not mandatory.
- The ideal candidate will have experience and/ or desire to take the lead on highly complex process equipment packages while taking ownership of P&IDs, module design / layout, controls, and equipment design, specification and selection with the selected supplier’s design team.
- Working knowledge of other engineering disciplines while providing proactive leadership on all interdisciplinary design coordination efforts.
- Ability to travel as needed to survey client sites.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with supervisory experience.
- Travel to client sites will comply with all K and Client Safety Rules, Processes and Procedures
- Work at client sites may require using and wearing personal protective equipment such as fire-retardant clothing, hearing and eye protection, hard hat and steel-toed boots
- Work at client sites may require moderate physical exertion including walking to operating areas, ascending/descending stairs, walking the client property
- This may include climbing ladders, lifting up to 35 lb., etc.
