Overview
Chemours seeks an R&D Engineer for the Thermal and Specialized Solutions (TSS) team. The role reports to the Global Core Services Manager at the R&D Discovery Hub in Newark, DE.
Responsibilities- Provide R&D laboratory support to develop improved next‑generation fluorochemical processes and products.
- Conduct tests to understand the flammability properties of refrigerants, foam expansion agents, specialty fluids, etc., including both standardized and novel tests under simulated process and application conditions.
- Interface with colleagues in TSS R&D and Technical Service to set objectives and priorities for the various tests.
- Provide data to guide research programs, support patent applications, and address technical questions from external customers.
- Plan and conduct experiments independently, collect necessary data, organize and record the data, share conclusions broadly, and continue experiments as needed with minimal supervision.
- Blend, package, and consolidate various refrigerants and specialty products while strictly adhering to safety, environmental, and quality aspects. Lifting and moving refrigerants and raw materials up to 55 lbs may be required.
- Ensure laboratory measurement systems are in good working condition and perform upgrades as necessary.
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, Materials Science engineering or a related field.
- Strong foundational knowledge of thermodynamics, heat and mass transfer.
- Mechanical ability to set up, maintain, fix, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work well with all levels of the organization.
- Self‑motivated, customer‑focused, and able to independently achieve results.
- Ability to work in teams and collaborate effectively.
- Demonstrated problem‑solving, troubleshooting, and data analysis skills.
- Demonstrated skills in multitasking and planning/organizing.
- Excellent written and verbal communication.
- 2+ years post‑degree experience in a manufacturing facility, R&D, or analytical testing laboratory.
- Experience in combustion testing, research, or fire safety in HVAC&R, chemical, or automotive industries.
- Experience handling gaseous reagents and highly hazardous materials such as HF and HCl.
- Familiarity with UL, ASHRAE, ASTM, and ISO flammability classification methods.
- Familiarity with design of experiments and other statistical techniques.

- Pay range (local currency): $73,947.00 – $ (general guideline based on primary location).
