Position Overview

Chemours is seeking a Corrosion Engineer to join the Engineering Technology team at the Chemours Discovery Hub in Newark, Delaware. The role reports to the Engineering Technology Director and focuses on corrosion and metallurgy support across bench‑scale process development, pilot plant operations, capital projects, and production facilities.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as a corrosion subject‑matter expert for materials selection and degradation issues in highly corrosive chemical processes, collaborating with Engineering Consultants, plant engineers, and research scientists to drive corrosion‑control solutions for operations, capital projects, and new process development.
  • Design and implement unique laboratory corrosion‑testing and field‑monitoring programs and conduct root‑cause failure‑analysis programs with recommendations for corrosion management and mitigation.
  • Direct and train laboratory technologists and materials engineers on corrosion‑testing setups, procedures, safety protocols, and hazard reviews.
  • Lead and deploy new technologies related to corrosion and materials to enhance field operations.
  • Manage the Corporate Corrosion Database and forecast new lab capital equipment to expand current lab capabilities.
  • Lead cross‑functional, site, and corporate program teams for business‑wide issues, including networking with company resources and coordinating with external customers, partners, and laboratories to achieve timely solutions.
  • Provide mentorship and internal corrosion training to new technical professionals and produce technical documents and client interactions.
  • Travel to plant sites and fabrication shops for face‑to‑face interactions (estimated 10%).
Required Qualifications
  • MS or Ph.D. in Metallurgical, Corrosion Engineering, Materials Science, or Chemical Engineering with a strong technical foundation in corrosion and materials technology.
  • ORORMS in Chemical Engineering or Chemistry with demonstrated proficiency in metallurgy, corrosion, and/or materials engineering.
  • Industrial experience and in‑depth understanding of the application of high‑performance alloys in highly corrosive processes, including metallurgy, corrosion‑damage mechanisms, and welding and repair procedures.
  • Strong experimental background in corrosion‑testing methods with the ability to design and implement lab tests that simulate complex plant corrosive environments.
  • Ability to work safely in hazardous and corrosive environments.
  • Strong interpersonal, networking, and teamwork skills for leading and building consensus in multidisciplinary teams across all levels of Chemours personnel.
  • Flexibility to meet commitments in a timely manner across varied consulting efforts, from short‑term laboratory testing to longer‑term technical programs and field monitoring.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in the chemical process or related industries.
  • Knowledge of electrochemical techniques and analytical methods for evaluating corrosion mechanisms.
  • Ability to develop and lead applied research programs around Chemours’ operating and developmental chemical manufacturing processes.
  • Knowledge in related materials‑engineering fields such as non‑destructive testing, welding, and fabrication.

Pay Range: $ – $ annually, with an annual bonus target of 11%.
