SENIOR PIPING STRESS ENGINEER
Technical Staffing Resources (TSR) is seeking a Pipe Stress Engineer to work with one of the largest EPC firms in the country. This is a long-term (6+ months) contract position located in Newark, DE.
RESPONSIBILITIES- Identify pipes requiring review and/or analysis.
- Perform formal stress analysis in accordance with ASME B31.1 and B31.3, including pressure, thermal and vibration related issues.
- Conduct informal review in accordance with ASME B31.1 and B31.3, including pressure, weight and thermal analysis of piping systems, vibration analysis and piping support systems.
- Analyze specialty piping items such as spring cans, hoses, expansion joints.
- Develop specifications in cooperation with piping designers and process engineers.
- Create requests for quotes in cooperation with procurement specialists and evaluate vendor quotes.
- Select standard pipe supports for a project according to corporate and client requirements.
- Specify specific pipe supports and communicate to pipe designers.
- Develop engineered pipe supports such as spring cans and snubbers.
- Assist in conducting piping reviews of all project isometrics, supports, and specialty items prior to issuance for construction to ensure quality procedures were followed.
- Estimate work hours for pipe flexibility, support, and specialty piping items for proposals and all stages of projects.
- Be responsible for the budget, schedule, and quality of the piping engineering work on assigned projects in cooperation with piping design leads.
- May lead a team of engineers on multiple independent projects.
- Collaborate in a multi-office environment.
- Minimum 10 years of applicable piping engineering experience within the chemical and industrial industries.
- Proficiency with pipe stress analysis and finite element software (Caesar II and Nozzle Pro preferred).
- Familiarity with ASME B31.3 and B31.1.
- Experience navigating 3D models with Navisworks.
- Experience with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.
- Ability to travel and work at client sites.
- AutoCAD experience is a plus.
- Professional Engineer license is preferred but not mandatory.
- Work may be performed at client sites and may require exposure to ambient temperature extremes.
- Work may require using and wearing personal protective equipment such as fire-retardant clothing, hearing and eye protection, hard hat and steel-toed boots.
- Day-to-day physical requirements involve standard office activities including sitting/standing for extended periods of time, attending meetings, use of keyboard and mouse repetitively, lifting and carrying less than 20 lb. frequently, etc.
- Work may require moderate physical exertion including walking to operating areas and walking up stairs.
- May require walking the plant property.
