Fraud Detection Specialist I
WHAT IS THE OPPORTUNITY?
A Fraud Detection Specialist level I will review alerts/transactions that are flagged as potentially fraudulent or out of pattern based on the client’s normal activity. Alerts and/or transactions may include various payment types. Colleagues in this department review and verify these alerted transactions via outbound and/or inbound calls, in addition to initiating dispute claims. This position plays a key role in preventing losses to City National Bank and its clients.
The role requires banking operations and/or contact center knowledge, and a general knowledge of fraud identification and prevention.
- Demonstrate resiliency and adaptability in a fast‑paced contact center environment.
- Review fraud alerts and internal notifications to identify fraudulent or suspicious activity.
- Approach problems logically and with good judgment to ensure the appropriate customer outcome.
- Demonstrate personal excellence, including punctuality, integrity, and accountability.
- Maintain a metrics‑driven environment, prioritizing and multitasking.
- Think critically and exercise independent judgment.
- Follow established policies and procedures, initiating appropriate actions to mitigate risk and protect the bank from financial loss.
- Open cases/claims on suspicious activity, investigate, and escape when needed.
- Detect various fraud schemes (email compromise, elder abuse, counterfeit checks, ATO, etc.) and recognize red flags, performing additional duties as assigned.
- Perform defined mitigation steps to reduce financial loss to customers and the bank.
- Complete duties within daily deadlines efficiently and timely, with minimal supervision, to meet KPIs and SLAs.

- Advanced knowledge of PC functions in a Windows environment.
- Effective written and oral communication skills to interact with all levels of bank personnel and clients.
Compensation
Starting base salary: $22.27 – $33.43 per hour. Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location. The job is eligible for bonus and/or commissions.
