Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced Molecular Technologist II – Accessioner for our MALDI Lab located in Newark, DE. The work hours are Monday – Friday 10:00 am‑6:30 pm. The Lab-Molecular Technologist will be responsible for entering customer samples into the LIMS for downstream processing in the microbiology laboratory utilizing platforms such as bacterial 16S rDNA, fungal ITS2 sequencing, MALDI‑TOF mass spectrometry and ribotyping.
The role ensures regulatory requirements and GMP compliance.
Responsibilities include:
- Accurately process customer samples in accordance with current SOPs.
- Receive, unpack, log, and subculture customer samples.
- Evaluate and accession customer samples into LIMS.
- Aliquot and prepare reagents.
- Perform test streaks for isolation, PCR, sequencing and other laboratory processes including mass spectrometry and ribotyping.
- Maintain, repair and clean all laboratory equipment.
- Perform pipette verification.
- Operate and maintain the laser cutter.
- Provide backup for all laboratory functions when needed.
- Dispose of microbe cultures, chemicals and glass in proper waste containers.
- Collaborate with technical support to resolve discrepancies with customer samples.
- Comply with all aspects of laboratory safety, safety stations, safety manuals, safety SOP, and MSDS sheets.
- Suggest process improvements.
- Perform or support special projects in the lab when needed.
- Perform all other related duties as assigned.
Minimum requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree (B.A./B.S.) or Associate’s Degree in Microbiology or related discipline.
- Preferred experience as a Medical Laboratory Technologist or Medical Laboratory Scientist.
- 3‑5 years of experience in Microbiology (clinical or public health environment preferred).
- Experience with microbiology culture techniques including agars, colony morphology, mixed cultures or samples.
- Experience with LIMS systems (e.g., Citrix).
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced, team‑oriented laboratory environment.
- Strong attention to detail.
The pay range for this position is $23.00 – $23.50 per hour.
