ABOUT THE ROLE

The Student Hospitality Management Program (SHMP) is a hands‑on, leadership‑focused internship designed to give you real experience in hospitality operations - while you're still in school.
You won't just shadow—you'll participate, contribute, and grow.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
This is a rotational, immersive experience across multiple areas of hospitality:

• Support daily operations (opening, closing, and service execution)
• Work directly with managers and a dedicated mentor
• Assist with training and team development
• Gain exposure to dining, retail, catering, and events
• Contribute to special projects like campus events, guest experience initiatives, and marketing efforts
• Learn how to lead in real‑world situations

• Leadership experience (real leadership, not just observation)
• Customer service and communication skills
• Problem‑solving in a fast‑paced environment
• Insight into hospitality operations from the inside out
• A mentor guiding your growth every step of the way

WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR
You don't need years of experience - just the right mindset.
We're looking for students who are:

• Motivated and eager to learn
• Positive, adaptable, and team‑oriented
• Interested in hospitality, business, or leadership
• Excited to take on new challenges

• Flexible schedule designed for students
• Evening and weekend availability may be required
• Commitment:
  Full academic year (with potential summer opportunities)
• Participation in structured training and development sessions

• Paid, hands‑on experience while in college
• Mentorship from experienced hospitality leaders
• Exposure to multiple departments and career paths
• Opportunity to build your resume with real impact
• Networking and professional development opportunities

• Ability to stand or walk for extended periods
• Occasionally lift up to 50 lbs
• Work in active environments (kitchens, service areas, etc.)

• Must read, write, and understand verbal instructions.
• Must complete a sanitation and allergy captain course during the program.
• Ability to perform basic arithmetic.
• Maintain emotional control under stress.
• Must be knowledgeable in operating an efficient cost‑effective program.
• Ability to resolve interpersonal situations.
• Strong organizational skills.
• Must be a student at the Univerity of Delaware location.
