The Human Resources Generalist is responsible for managing payroll administration while supporting a broad range of HR functions, including employee relations, benefits administration, onboarding, compliance, and HR recordkeeping. This role ensures accurate and timely payroll processing, maintains employee data integrity, and serves as a key resource for employees and management regarding payroll and HR-related matters.
Key ResponsibilitiesPayroll Administration
- Process weekly, bi-weekly, or semi-monthly payroll for hourly and salaried employees.
- Ensure payroll is completed accurately and on schedule, including overtime, bonuses, commissions, shift differentials, and other earnings.
- Maintain employee payroll records, tax with holdings, direct deposit information, and deductions.
- Review and reconcile payroll reports, identify discrepancies, and resolve issues promptly.
- Coordinate payroll-related activities such as new hires, terminations, promotions, transfers, and leave of absence changes.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local wage and hour laws.
- Manage garnishments, tax levies, child support orders, and other payroll deductions.
- Prepare payroll reports and support internal and external audits as needed.
- Partner with Finance to ensure payroll accuracy and proper accounting reconciliation.
- Assist with employee onboarding, orientation, and new hire documentation.
- Maintain HRIS and employee personnel records, ensuring data accuracy and confidentiality.
- Support benefits administration, including enrollments, changes, and employee inquiries.
- Assist with employee relations matters by responding to routine employee questions and escalating issues when appropriate.
- Coordinate leave administration, including FMLA, disability, and other employee leave programs.
- Support performance management, employee engagement, and HR initiatives.
- Assist with recruiting activities, including interview scheduling and candidate communication.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and employment regulations.
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Accounting, or related field preferred.
- 5+ years of HR experience with significant payroll processing responsibilities.
- Experience processing payroll for multi-state employee populations preferred.
- Strong knowledge of payroll regulations, wage and hour laws, and payroll best practices.
- Experience with HRIS and payroll systems such as ADP Workforce Now, Paylocity, UKG, Workday, or similar platforms.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and payroll reporting.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage confidential information.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) or PHR/SHRM certification is a plus.
- Experience in manufacturing, distribution, logistics, or other multi-shift environments preferred.
- Familiarity with benefits administration and leave management processes.
