Job description

Our client is seeking an experienced HR, Benefits & Compliance Manager to take ownership of the company's benefits programs, business insurance and subcontractor compliance, and key HR compliance functions. This is a hands-on role for someone who is highly organized, detail-oriented, and confident navigating federal and multi-state employment requirements.

The ideal candidate brings strong knowledge of employee benefits, HR compliance, insurance administration, employee relations, and risk management, while also having the ability to work closely with senior leadership, brokers, employees, and subcontractors.

What You'll Be Responsible For Benefits & Total Rewards
  • Design, renew, and administer the company's medical, dental, vision, life, disability, and 401(k) benefit programs.
  • Manage the annual benefits renewal process in partnership with the company's broker, including modeling plan scenarios and negotiating to control costs.
  • Lead the open enrollment process from start to finish and ensure employees have the information and support needed to make informed benefit elections.
  • Manage COBRA, leaves of absence, and disability administration.
  • Ensure benefits programs remain compliant with applicable requirements, including ACA reporting, ERISA filings, 401(k) audit support, and nondiscrimination testing.
Business Insurance & Subcontractor Compliance
  • Partner with the CFO and insurance broker to manage the company's commercial insurance program and annual renewals.
  • Oversee annual insurance renewals, premium audits, documentation, and ongoing compliance requirements.
  • Build and manage a comprehensive subcontractor insurance compliance process.
  • Collect and verify Certificates of Insurance (COIs), required coverage limits, and endorsements.
  • Monitor policy and certificate expirations and proactively address issues before subcontractors begin work.
  • Ensure required additional insured and waiver of subrogation endorsements are in place.
  • Enforce a clear standard to protect the company from unnecessary risk.
  • Administer subcontractor agreements and support worker classification decisions and related documentation.
HR Compliance & Employee Relations
  • Serve as the company's subject matter expert on federal and multi-state employment laws and regulations.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with state-specific requirements, including paid leave, paid sick leave, pay transparency, and other applicable employment programs.
  • Own and maintain the employee handbook and HR policy library.
  • Oversee I-9 and E-Verify compliance and required government reporting.
  • Conduct workplace investigations and maintain thorough, accurate, and defensible documentation.
  • Partner with leadership on employee relations matters and provide guidance on HR policies, compliance, and risk management.
What We're Looking For
  • Proven experience in HR, benefits administration, compliance, risk management, or a related field.
  • Strong working knowledge of employee benefits, employment law, and HR compliance.
  • Experience managing benefits renewals, open enrollment, COBRA, leaves, and retirement plans.
  • Experience with commercial insurance and/or subcontractor insurance compliance strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of COIs, insurance limits, endorsements, and subcontractor compliance.
  • Experience working across multiple states and navigating state-specific employment requirements.
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to handle sensitive employee and company information with professionalism and discretion.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to confidently partner with executives, employees, brokers, and outside partners.
  • Ability to independently take ownership of compliance programs and identify potential risks before they become problems.
Why This Opportunity

This is an opportunity to play a critical role in protecting and supporting a growing organization. You'll have significant ownership over benefits, compliance, insurance, and employee relations while working directly with senior leadership to build scalable processes and reduce organizational risk.

If you're an HR professional who enjoys owning complex programs, solving problems, and building strong compliance systems, we'd love to hear from you.
