Job Responsibilities- Provide strategic and commercially pragmatic legal and regulatory advice to key senior leaders of the Card Services and Connected Commerce businesses, including the Product Owners for co-brand partnerships, Card Marketing, Growth and Innovation, and Lending Innovation and their teams, with respect to all aspects of consumer and small business lending products and features. The position is responsible for providing trusted advice in all areas, including credit cards, lending to consumers and small businesses, creating and operating buy now, pay later products and maintaining compliant operations.
- Support Card Services and Connected Commerce on new product offerings and initiatives, draft and approve language for regulatory customer notices and customer experiences, and support multiple areas of the Card Services and Connected Commerce organizations, including Acquisitions, Pricing, Marketing, Risk, Product and Customer Service.
- Draft and negotiate a broad range of marketing and advertising agreements, including master vendor/professional services agreements, event sponsor ships, speaker agreements, releases and licenses, co-marketing agreements, social media, talent, influencer/celebrity, content creation, licensing, and media buying agreements.
- Interface regularly with branding and in-house media management teams to provide advice and support for digital media buying projects and initiatives.
- Support and review marketing and advertising campaign content from concept through execution, providing legal and regulatory compliance risk assessments.
- Develop deep subject matter expertise in US regulations, industry guidelines, and self-regulatory standards for marketing and advertising.
- Understand the digital marketing and paid media ecosystems, addressing legal and privacy issues surrounding advertising technologies and social media platforms.
- Manage workloads, multiple client demands, and shifting and competing priorities within a fast-paced, unpredictable environment.
- About 5+ years of legal experience, including contract drafting and negotiations of credit card marketing agreements, ideally for activations and promotions.
- In-depth understanding of consumer lending regulations, particularly credit card regulations, with experience in their application, advertising and compliance.
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
- Deep transactional experience drafting, negotiating, and advising on vendor and supplier agreements.
- Experience in digital media, marketing, and advertising legal matters.
- Familiarity with IAB standards, FTC, and advertising regulations.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong drafting and negotiation skills, with confidence to be outspoken when necessary.
- Proficient collaboration skills and team-minded perspective.
- Strong people leadership, analytical and communication skills.
- Experience with affiliate marketing, data collection, and consent requirements.
- Ability to propose creative solutions to advance business objectives in a risk-tolerant manner.
- Interest in developing expertise in marketing and advertising regulations.
- Strong understanding of social media platforms and advertising technologies.
- Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams; manage tight time sensitivities and deliver practical solutions to business and partner needs across various disciplines.
- Demonstrated ability to thrive in a dynamic and evolving environment, to stay calm under pressure and maintain a good sense of humor.
