Overview

The Transportation Account Manager is responsible for delivering exceptional service, execution, and relationship management across a portfolio of assigned 3PL customer accounts. In this role, you will coordinate shipments across North America, working closely with customers, carriers and transportation providers, and warehouse and cold storage partners to ensure freight moves reliably and efficiently, particularly when conditions change or challenges arise. This role also has a strong focus on driving organic account growth by building trusted partnerships, maintaining proactive communication, and identifying new opportunities within assigned accounts.

Success requires someone who builds credibility quickly, negotiates confidently with both customers and service providers, and takes ownership of their accounts and shipments from end to end.

Accountabilities

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned customer accounts; build trust through responsiveness, transparency, and consistent follow-through.
  • Develop strong, lasting relationships by understanding each customer’s business, service expectations, and decision drivers (cost, speed, reliability, visibility).
  • Proactively communicate shipment status, potential risks, and recovery plans; manage escalations with professionalism and urgency.
  • Conduct regular touchpoints (as appropriate) to review performance, lanes, seasonality, and improvement opportunities.
  • Own shipment execution from order intake through delivery: scheduling, dispatch coordination, tracking, exception management, and delivery confirmation.
  • Arrange schedules and dispatch appropriate transportation providers to meet pickup/delivery requirements across North America.
  • Coordinate with warehouses/cold storage and other stakeholders to confirm loading requirements, appointments, documentation, and special handling.
  • Provide occasional after-hours support based on shipment schedules and service needs to protect customer outcomes.
  • Negotiate pricing and service expectations with customers and transportation providers to achieve competitive, sustainable solutions while meeting financial expectations.
  • Secure capacity and rate commitments from carriers/providers; align awarded freight with performance expectations.
  • Ensure pricing decisions align with internal guidelines, margin targets, and customer commitments.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to develop lane strategies, address cost-to-serve challenges, and support organic growth opportunities.
  • Identify opportunities to expand freight volume and deepen partnerships (new lanes, seasonal surges, mode shifts, service add-ons).
  • Use a consultative, solution-based approach to win incremental business—without sacrificing service quality or execution discipline.
  • Support renewal conversations and account retention through performance, visibility, and proactive planning.
  • Anticipate issues and act early to prevent service failures; lead recovery actions…
