Supervisor of Transmission and Distribution

POSITION SUMMARY

The Supervisor of Transmission and Distribution is responsible for overseeing the daily operations, maintenance, construction, and repair of transmission and distribution systems. This position supervises crews responsible for maintaining utility infrastructure and ensures the safe, reliable, and efficient delivery of services to customers. The Supervisor coordinates work assignments, monitors system performance, enforces safety and regulatory compliance, and responds to service interruptions or emergency situations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervise and coordinate the daily activities of transmission and distribution field personnel.
  • Plan, assign, and monitor work related to the maintenance, repair, and construction of transmission and distribution infrastructure.
  • Adhere to all company safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements to maintain a safe and compliant work environment.
  • Monitor vehicles and equipment for cleanliness and pre-trip inspections
  • Coordinate vehicle maintenance and DOT requirements with garage personnel.
  • Monitor system operations to maintain reliable utility service delivery.
  • Coordinate with dispatch, operations, engineering, and customer service to prioritize work and respond to service issues.
  • Oversee installation, maintenance, and repair of mains, pipelines, valves, hydrants, service connections, or related infrastructure depending on utility operations.
  • Respond to system emergencies such as leaks, outages, breaks, or service disruptions.
  • Conduct field inspections to ensure work quality, compliance with standards, and adherence to regulations.
  • Provide leadership, training, and performance guidance to crew leaders and utility workers.
  • Participate in employee evaluations, coaching, and disciplinary actions as needed.
  • Assist in planning and implementing infrastructure improvements, system upgrades, and capital projects.
  • Maintain records of maintenance activities, repairs, and operational reports.
  • Coordinate with contractors, vendors, and internal departments during projects and repairs.
  • Manage inventory, equipment usage, and material needs for field operations.
  • Participate in weekly/monthly meetings
  • Communicate daily work activities and operational updates to relevant internal and external departments and contractors to support coordination and efficiency.
  • Support the on-call field crews with phone calls, emails, and department requests.
  • Evaluate and monitor inventory levels to support on-going department material requests
  • Emergency response coordination.
  • Maintain company issued take home vehicle
  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • A valid driver’s license with clean driving record in accordance with company and insurance standards
  • Minimum of 5 yrs of field experience with installation, repair, and maintenance of a water distribution system.
  • Minimum of 3 yrs supervisory experience primarily leading, training and developing employees
  • Knowledge of maps, underground piping, and installations
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, to ensure accurate sharing information with team members, management, and other departments.
  • Visual acuity is required to safely perform job duties, including reading documents, computer screens, instruments, and observing work environments for potential hazards.
  • Intermediate computer skills, including the use of common software applications, data entry, and the ability to learn and navigate company-specific systems.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with Project Management

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Exerting more than 100lbs of force occasionally and/or more than 50lbs. of force frequently and/or more than 20 lbs. of force constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements are more than those for heavy work.
  • Ability to climb, bend, stoop, and work around vehicles and equipment
  • Ability to work in different weather and environmental conditions

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Work is performed both in office and outdoor field environments
  • Exposure to varying weather conditions, heavy equipment, and construction sites
  • Participation in emergency response and after-hours callouts may be required
