Position: Quality Control Technician - 12 Hour Shifts, Nights

Job Title: Quality Control Technician

Reports To: Quality Manager with ultimate accountability to the Plant/Site Manager

Position Summary

The Quality Control Technician is responsible for conducting chemical and physical testing of SPIN disk products using lab equipment such as pH meters, analytical balances, and SPIN meters, as well as preparing reagents and investigating product issues. The role requires strong math, communication, and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to work independently on 12‑hour shifts, including every other weekend. Technicians must also support lean initiatives, maintain safety standards, and assist with continuous improvement efforts across the department.

Duties

/ Responsibilities
  • Handle chemicals and use volumetric glassware, analytical balances, pH meters, and SPIN meters.
  • Prepare standards and vats used in the daily testing of SPIN disks.
  • Conduct performance tests on start‑up and hourly disk samples.
  • Conduct physical/vacuum testing on pouched disk products.
  • Interpret data and adjust reagents as needed.
  • Investigate customer complaints pertaining to SPIN products.
Qualifications / Requirements
  • Minimum requirement of a high school diploma or equivalent and general laboratory work experience.
  • General computer knowledge and ability to use Microsoft Works and Excel.
  • Excellent math and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team; willingness to work overtime as needed.
  • Ability to prioritize workload and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills, including communication with SPIN production personnel, QC, and R&D personnel.
  • Focus on tasks and not easily distracted.

Schedule &

Hours:

12‑hour shifts, working every other weekend. Night shift (6:30p.m. – 6:45a.m.)

Miscellaneous
  • Participate in lean activities: lean training, lean events such as kaizen or a 5‑day event, 5‑S program in department or other areas assigned, DMAICs.
  • Continuously look for ways to improve both departmental and personal efficiencies and time management.
  • Complete monthly safety observations.
  • Notify supervisors/managers of any production, equipment, safety, or personnel problems and cooperate in resolving such issues.
  • Provide feedback to determine where additional training would be beneficial and pursue additional training as necessary.
  • Assist in other department activities as needed and perform other duties as assigned.
  • Comply with all company policies (i.e., personnel, safety, etc.).

Environmental Factors & Mental/Physical Demands: Works indoors in a humidity and temperature‑controlled environment; requires walking, standing, sitting, stooping, bending, reaching, climbing step ladders, transporting up to 50pounds, handling loaded pallet jacks, and operating various equipment. Requires mechanical aptitude, manual dexterity, communication, judgment, decision‑making, problem‑troubleshooting, multitasking, and attention to detail. Requires good color perception and ability to pass a color test.
