Job Details
Christiana Care is seeking a Physician Assistant or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner to join our Neurocritical Care team. The candidate will work 80 hours every 2 weeks, comprised of 12‑hour shifts days and nights, including weekends and holidays rotation. The unit consists of an eighteen‑bed Neurocritical Care Intensive Care unit and a six‑bed stepdown unit with epilepsy monitoring capability, located on our Newark campus.
The advanced practice clinician will work independently in collaboration with the neurocritical intensivist, performing direct medical management with approved protocols and procedures, and providing expert consultation for adult neurocritical care patients. The clinician will also be involved in quality, safety, and experience improvement initiatives.
- Manage care of the critically ill patient collaboratively with other caregivers within established protocols, guidelines, and scope of practice.
- Utilize teaching/learning principles coupled with expert clinical knowledge to promote and provide education to patients and their families.
- Act as liaison for patients, families, and health professionals.
- Perform procedures including lumbar puncture, arterial catheterization, and central venous catheterization.
- Assess health status through complete physical examination and medical history.
- Design individualized management plans in collaboration with physicians, staff nurses, and other health care professionals.
- Manage care plans and treat patients with acute ischemic stroke, non‑traumatic intracerebral hemorrhage, non‑traumatic subarachnoid hemorrhage, status epilepticus, meningitis/encephalitis, post‑surgical management of CNS tumors, and cerebrovascular interventions.

- Acute Care Nurse Practitioner must be a graduate of an accredited program and be certified or eligible for certification.
- Physician Assistant must be a graduate of an ARC‑PA accredited program and be certified or eligible for certification by the NCCPA.
- Licensed or license eligible for the state of DE.
- Must have or be eligible to obtain prescriptive authority.
- Previous critical care experience preferred.
- BLS and ACLS certifications required.
