Job Overview
Christiana Care is seeking a Physician Assistant or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner to join our Neurocritical Care team. This is an excellent opportunity for a candidate with previous critical care experience. The selected candidate will work 80 hours every two weeks, a combination of 12‑hour shifts (days and nights), including weekends and holiday rotations. Our state‑of‑the‑art neurocritical care intensive care unit has 18 beds, and the step‑down unit has 6 beds including 2 rooms with epilepsy monitoring capability, located on our Newark campus.
Responsibilities- Work independently in collaboration with the neuro‑intensivist to perform direct medical management utilizing approved protocols, procedures, and expert consultation for adult neuro‑critical care patients.
- Be involved in quality, safety, and experience improvement initiatives.
- Manage care of the critically ill patient collaboratively with other caregivers within established protocols, guidelines, and scope of practice.
- Utilize teaching and learning principles coupled with expert clinical knowledge to promote and provide education to patients and their families.
- Act as liaison for patients, families, and health professionals.
- Perform procedures including lumbar puncture, arterial catheterization, and central venous catheterization.
- Assess health status of the neuro‑critical care patient through complete physical examination and medical history.
- Design individualized management plans in collaboration with physicians, staff nurses, and other health care staff.
- Manage care plans and treat patients with acute ischemic stroke (s/p TPA, mechanical thrombectomy, malignant stroke), non‑traumatic intracerebral hemorrhage, non‑traumatic subarachnoid hemorrhage, status epilepticus, meningitis and encephalitis, post‑surgical management of patients with CNS tumors and cerebrovascular interventions.

- Acute Care Nurse Practitioner: graduate of an accredited program and certified or eligible for certification.
- Physician Assistant: graduate of an ARC‑PA accredited program and certified or eligible for certification by the NCCPA.
- Licensed or license eligible in the state of Delaware.
- Must have or be eligible to obtain prescriptive authority.
- Previous critical care experience preferred.
- BLS and ACLS certifications required.
