Job Summary
Registered Nurse (RN) working the night shift on the 3D Transitional Medical (Stepdown) Unit at Christiana Hospital, providing specialized care to acutely ill adult patients with respiratory and complex conditions. The role emphasizes clinical expertise, professional development, flexible scheduling, and commitment to high-quality healthcare services.
Responsibilities- Utilize critical thinking and clinical expertise to assess, plan, and deliver individualized care to an adult patient population with a respiratory focus.
- Work closely with the interdisciplinary team including nursing, social work, pharmacy, respiratory therapy, hospitalists, and consultants such as pulmonologists, nephrologists, cardiologists, and infectious disease specialists.
- Manage a range of diagnoses including ventilator-dependent respiratory failure, COPD, pulmonary hypertension, acute renal failure, GI bleed, DKA, sepsis, and other conditions.
- Provide ventilator management, tracheostomy care, suctioning, wound care, and other advanced nursing interventions for acutely ill patients.
- Deliver patient and family-centered care, ensuring comfort and positive outcomes through education about medications and disease process.
- Closely monitor patients and manage any emergencies that may arise.
- Assist with the transition of patients to the appropriate level of care once stabilized.
- Manage an assignment of 3-4 patients.
- BSN required; ADN candidates considered if they commit to obtaining a BSN within three years of hire.
- Minimum of one year of acute or sub-acute care experience.
- Acute care or sub-acute care experience preferred.
- BLS certification required.
- Excellent communication and prioritization skills.
- Ability to work effectively with an interdisciplinary team and peers.
