Position: Nurse Residency Summer 2026- Operating Room Track

Operating Room Nurse Residency Program (Summer 2026)

The Christiana Care Nurse Residency Program is an accredited, distinction Practice Transition Program by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation in Practice Transition Programs. It is designed for Senior Nursing Students, Nurse Graduates, and new RNs with under one year of experience.

The curriculum combines lecture and simulation education, peer support, preceptor‑led clinical experiences, and structured learning to foster critical thinking, evidence‑based practice, interdisciplinary collaboration, effective communication, quality and safety, and professional development.

Program length is 26 weeks, including simulation, didactic, and clinical experience. Experienced perioperative preceptors are assigned to each resident. The program continues with residency meetings in months 8, 10, and 12 to support professional growth.

Responsibilities

• Learn the foundations and principles of surgery and the patients’ surgical experience.

• Participate in simulation and didactic sessions.

• Attend clinical orientation and work in the Christiana Hospital or Wilmington Hospital Operating Room.

• Complete competencies each clinical week.

• Attend residency meetings to develop as a professional nurse and member of the caregiver team.

Requirements
  • Graduating from an accredited nursing school before June 2026 (BSN preferred).
  • BLS required.
  • Eligible for a Delaware license as a Registered Nurse or Compact RN license.
Application Process

Submit a cover letter expressing interest in this program and address it to Karen Brady. Include a resume, transcript (unofficial), and, when required, two clinical recommendations. Applications are accepted until a sufficient number of qualified candidates have been identified.

Selected candidates will complete a video interview and clinical references through third‑party vendors Hire Vue and Skill Survey. Successful applicants will receive an offer and cover a commitment agreement requiring two years at Christiana Care, with 15 months on the unit of hire. A fee of $10,000 applies to individuals unable to meet this commitment.

Compensation

This flat‑rate position offers $38.61 per hour plus applicable differentials. Compensation may vary based on qualifications, skills, and experience.
