Job Description Summary
The Quality Control Technician (Level
1) supports machining and production operations by performing dimensional inspection using CMMs and precision measurement equipment. This role follows established inspection plans and work instructions to validate key features, ensure product conformity to drawings and specifications, and help prevent quality escapes. The Level 1 technician focuses on safe, accurate execution of assigned inspections and proper documentation, with no supervisory responsibilities.
Dimensional Inspection (CMM/Metrology)
- Perform dimensional inspection using CMM equipment by running established programs and following standard work and site procedures.
- Use precision tools (such as height gages, micrometers, bore gages, indicators, pin/plug gages, and surface finish gages as applicable) to verify part features.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, basic GD&T callouts, routers, and specifications to complete assigned checks.
- Compare inspection results to requirements and notify appropriate personnel when out-of-tolerance conditions are found.
- Follow all safety procedures and use required PPE while performing inspection activities.
- Accurately record inspection results in required systems and forms (e.g., FAI, in-process, and/or final dimensional records as applicable).
- Maintain correct part identification and inspection status to prevent mix-ups and escapes (proper tagging, segregation, and traceability).
- Ensure measurement records are complete, legible, and compliant with site quality procedures.
- Identify nonconforming conditions and initiate nonconformance documentation in accordance with site procedures.
- Provide accurate inspection data (such as CMM output and manual gage readings) to support Engineering and Quality investigations, as requested.
- Support containment activities as directed by Quality or Operations.
- Verify gage calibration status prior to use and handle all inspection equipment in accordance with work instructions and care guidelines.
- Maintain a clean, organized inspection work area in alignment with 5S and safety expectations.
- Escalate issues related to gage condition, suspected measurement error, or uncertainty to appropriate personnel.
- Work collaboratively with Operations, Quality, and Engineering teams to support defect prevention and safe, reliable processes.
- Participate in team discussions and basic improvement activities (such as corrective actions or standard work updates) as requested.
- Support a culture of Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost (SQDC) through disciplined adherence to procedures and open communication on issues.
- 2nd shift: 2:00 PM – 10:30 PM
- Associate’s Degree or High School Diploma / GED from an accredited school or institution
- U.S. Person status required due to access to export-controlled information (U.S. Citizen, U.S. lawful permanent resident, or granted asylee/refugee status)
- Prior quality inspection experience in a manufacturing environment; machining/precision components preferred.
- Basic experience using precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, indicators, plug gages, etc.).
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings; familiarity with basic GD&T is a plus.
- Experience operating or running established CMM programs is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to data integrity and procedural compliance.
- Familiarity with nonconformance (NCR) systems or manufacturing execution/ERP systems is a plus.
