Under close supervision, does the simplest types of substation construction and maintenance work on dead conductors, structures, plant and equipment used in the production and distribution of electrical energy.
Primary Duties- May be required to work on low voltage energized apparatus for purpose of learning and studying for advancement.
- Under close supervision, regularly and customarily performs all other duties of an Electrician on disconnected tagged out or non-electric structures.
- Performs other related or less skilled work as required or as directed.
After eighteen (18) months as Electrician Helper, employee is automatically promoted to the grade of Jr. Electrician.
Minimum Qualifications- Some high school or vocational school education or equivalent. Completion of electrical theory courses as listed above while in the military service or graduate of an electrical program, such as Bliss, National, etc. OR
- Graduate of an electrical school, such as BLISS, National, etc. OR
- High School or vacation school graduate or equivalent plus, completion of an electrical apprenticeship on a full-time basis with a licensed electrical contractor. OR
- Must has satisfactorily completed a basic electric course with approved content, which is inclusive of any four (4) of the following seven (7) subject areas:
Transformers – Electric Motors – AC Circuits – DC Circuit – Instrumentation – Electric Print Reading – Integrated Circuits - Must pass CAST qualification test prior to Company awarding job.
- Must pass qualification test prior to Company awarding job.
- Must possess or be able to promptly obtain a Commercial driver's license, with hazardous materials and tanker endorsements.
- Must be able to work overtime and various work schedules as required (Non‑standard and extended hours, rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, during system emergencies) in a variety of work environments while wearing the proper personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Must be able to pass physical for DOT and respirator certification.
- Ability to distinguish between color‑coded wires and components.
- Physical effort required:
Strenuous. reaching. abnormal positions, heavy lifting. walking. stooping and climbing. - Ability and willingness to perform both indoor and outdoor tasks for extended periods of time (for example, lifting up to 50 pounds, climbing ladders and scaffolding, bending, twisting, kneeling, crawling, pulling/pushing, standing, walking, and squatting).
- Must be able to read, write and communicate effectively in the English language.
- This position is a NERC regulated position and requires an initial background check on the incumbent followed by background checks every seven (7) years on the incumbent. Additionally, the incumbent will be required to complete annual NERC compliance training.
- Hourly rates will be paid in accordance with terms of the candidate’s skills, qualifications, experience or collective bargaining agreement: $34.42/Hr.
