Overview
The Division of Transportation Solutions provides safe, cost-effective, and efficient multi‑modal transportation infrastructure. This position focuses on maintaining and troubleshooting Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) devices across the state.
Responsibilities- Install, modify, test, troubleshoot, and repair traffic control signals, communications, and ITS field devices.
- Perform repairs on internal cabinet equipment, essential electrical devices, and ITS equipment.
- Ship, order, receive, and inventory transportation equipment.
- Respond to emergency situations with on‑call duties and report to the duty station within 60 minutes.
- Use bucket trucks, locating equipment, and electrical test equipment to perform field work.
- Physically lift and handle pedestrian signal poles and other traffic equipment.
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair a variety of ITS equipment.
- Repair copper‑wired, fiber‑optic, and wireless communication systems related to ITS.
- Test ITS equipment using detection software and devices such as multimeters, megger, GPS, and oscilloscopes.
- Interpret blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams for ITS diagnostics.
- Apply department safety standards, the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, and the National Electrical Code.
- Respond to emergencies involving ITS equipment.
- Transfer data to and from field units such as traffic signal controllers, axle sensors, and automatic data recorders into a computer database.
- Detect, locate, and mark underground utilities.
- Perform field counts for traffic control and timing when required.
- Operate motorized equipment, including an aerial lift with extended arm, for ITS repairs and replacements.
- Knowledge of electronics or electrical installation.
- Valid driver’s license (non‑suspended, non‑revoked, non‑cancelled, and not disqualified).
- Legally authorized to work in the United States; U.S. work authorization verified through Form I‑9.
- Pre‑employment drug testing and criminal background check are required.
- All new hires must report to the Statewide New Employee Orientation (SNEO) on their first day.
- This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement under an exclusive bargaining representative.
