Client: Well-established nonprofit organization
Job title: Staff Accountant (Temp-to-Hire)
Location: Newark, NJ (5 days/week onsite)
Pay Rate: $33-35/hour
Employment Type: Temp-to-Hire
A well-established nonprofit organization serving the Newark community is seeking a Staff Accountant to join its finance team. This is an excellent opportunity for an accounting professional looking to gain hands‑on experience in a mission‑driven environment.
Responsibilities- Assist with month‑end and year‑end close activities
- Prepare and post journal entries
- Perform account reconciliations and resolve discrepancies
- Maintain general ledger accuracy and support financial reporting
- Assist with accounts payable and accounts receivable processes
- Support audit preparation and provide requested documentation
- Track and analyze financial transactions to ensure compliance with accounting policies
- Assist with budget monitoring and variance analysis
- Maintain accurate financial records and supporting documentation
- Support special projects and other accounting duties as assigned
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required
- 1-2+ years of accounting experience
- Understanding of basic accounting principles and GAAP
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications
- Experience with Sage MIP preferred, but not required
- Nonprofit accounting experience preferred, but not required
- Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
