About The Role
The primary purpose of the Patient Accounts Clerk I position is to serve as the Cash Control Clerk with responsibility for daily deposit preparation, cash posting, and reconciliation of patient related cash received by University Hospital.
Responsibilities- Prepares bank deposit of mail and interoffice cash receipts. Delivers bank deposit bags to appropriate security retrieval location.
- Post payments into Healthquest System for inpatient, outpatient and bad debt accounts. Agrees amount posted to control total deposit, researches and reconciles any variances.
- Researches unidentified payments and initiates correction to appropriate accounts or identifies refund due to carriers or patients.
- Summarizes daily cash receipt for entry into Banner Accounting System and makes entry into Banner.
- Assists billers as needed with retrieval of source materials related to cash processed and posted.
- Provides back-up support for window cashier at the Hospital Cashier Office as needed.
- High School Diploma or GED certification required.
- Minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in a physician's office or hospital billing environment.
- Knowledge of various insurance coverages and medical terminology required.
- Proficient in PC applications and computer systems.
- Strong quantitative skills with experience in financial transactions and record keeping.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, stressful environment while maintaining professionalism.

In compliance with New Jersey’s Pay Transparency Act, the hourly range for this position is TC/1925: $27.95 - $29.30 per hour. University Hospital considers multiple factors when determining compensation, including (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s relevant work experience, education and training, key skills, internal equity, market data, and organizational needs. The expected salary range for this position is in accordance with the New Jersey Pay Transparency Law;
final compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
