Posting SummaryRutgers University‑Newark seeks a RU‑Flourishing Clerical Assistant to engage with incarcerated individuals, support program recruitment and training, and provide administrative support. Travel to state correctional facilities and the Rutgers Newark campus is required.
Responsibilities- Attend monthly information fairs at Northern State Prison, Garden State Correctional Facility, Bayside State Prison, and South Woods State Prison on designated Thursdays (8:00 AM–12:00 PM, Jan 15–Jun 25, 2026).
- Provide information to incarcerated persons about the RU‑Flourishing Program.
- Support evening training sessions (4:00–9:00 PM) at Rutgers University‑Newark, including logistics, materials, catering setup, and cleanup.
- Conduct follow‑up calls with interested IPs, complete intake interviews, guide them through requirements, and submit required intake forms.
- Other duties as assigned.
$25–$30 per hour.

Part‑time, 19.5 hours per week, temporary staff appointment – hourly.
Qualifications- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Prior experience in administrative or clerical support roles.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills for engaging with incarcerated individuals, culturally sensitive.
- Organizational skills to manage intake interviews, forms, and training logistics.
- Ability to work independently and exercise discretion in sensitive environments.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and effective email use.
- Must pass NJ Department of Corrections volunteer background check prior to the start of this position.
- Completion of NJDOC volunteer trainings prior to starting.
- Reliable transportation to travel to correctional facilities throughout New Jersey and Rutgers Newark campus.
- Associate’s degree or higher in social sciences, criminal justice, or entrepreneurship.
- Experience working in correctional settings or with justice‑impacted populations.
- Familiarity with program recruitment and intake processes.
- Correctional facility environment requiring adherence to strict security protocols.
- Evening work for training sessions (4:00‑9:00 PM).
- Office setting for administrative tasks.
- Must maintain professionalism in sensitive and high‑security environments.
