Job OverviewThe University of Cincinnati, Department of Athletics is seeking a Sports Information Officer. The position will serve as primary public relations contact for the football program, directing external communications and media relations efforts. The successful candidate will be appointed at the Sr. Director (Sports Information Officer) or Assistant Director Athletics level depending on skills and qualifications.
Essential Functions- Contribute to, plan, and execute public relations initiatives for the football program.
- Create editorial content for online and social media platforms, including media guides, news releases, feature stories and graphics.
- Proactively pursue new, creative methods for enhancing brand and media presence.
- Contact writers, broadcasters, editors to place stories and act as liaison with news media.
- Represent the program in designated activities.
- Coordinate and schedule personnel support during events.
- Assist in developing administrative guidelines and procedures.
- Administer and monitor expenditures.
- Maintain current and historical program information.
- Provide direct or indirect supervision to exempt and non-exempt staff (hiring, evaluations, disciplinary actions, time off approvals).
- Perform related duties based on departmental need.
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Seven (7) years of relevant work experience and/or other specialized training can be used in lieu of education.
- Three (3) years of experience in public relations, publications, or related field.
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Nine (9) years of relevant work experience and/or other specialized training can be used in lieu of education.
- Five (5) years of experience in athletic administration.
- Proficiency in creative and statistical software.
- Experience mentoring and leading student interns.
- Self‑motivated, proactive, and willing to work as part of a small team.
- Ability to work under tight deadlines and pressure.
- Good interpersonal, organizational, and planning skills.
- Attention to detail.
- A willingness to work outside normal working hours and travel with teams.
- Office environment; no specific unusual physical or environmental demands.
