Construction Supervisor - Heavy Civil Steel Erection
We are in need of a skilled Construction Supervisor to manage all steel erection tasks on civil infrastructure projects at our Newark, NJ location. The ideal candidate should have extensive knowledge in structural and miscellaneous steel erection, excellent coordination abilities, and a track record of delivering projects safely, on schedule, and within specifications.
Main Duties- Oversee the safe and effective erection of structural and miscellaneous steel elements (such as beams, columns, trusses, braces, stairs, and railings).
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, fabricators, erectors, and other teams for timely material delivery and installation.
- Supervise daily steel field operations, crew productivity, equipment usage, and site management.
- Ensure adherence to project requirements, AISC standards, codes, tolerances, and quality benchmarks through thorough inspections.
- Develop and manage steel schedules (short- and long-term) in alignment with project timelines.
- Enforce OSHA regulations and company safety procedures to foster a culture of safety.
- Proactively identify and resolve field issues such as clashes, fit-up problems, and fabrication errors.
- Maintain accurate daily reports, logs, inspection records, and progress monitoring.
- Act as the primary on-site contact for steel-related matters between field, management, and design teams.
- At least 8 years of hands-on experience in steel erection within civil, structural, or heavy construction settings.
- Demonstrated leadership in roles such as Supervisor, General Foreman, or Foreman on projects emphasizing steel work (e.g., bridges, industrial facilities, heavy civil projects).
- Comprehensive understanding of steel systems, erection sequencing, rigging, welding, bolting, and AISC standards.
- Proficiency in interpreting structural drawings, shop drawings, and specifications.
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and team management skills with both union and non-union teams.
- Preferably possess OSHA 30-Hour Certification; additional certifications in steel work or safety are advantageous.
- Skilled in utilizing construction management software (such as Procore) and Microsoft Office tools.
- Experience in coordinating steel work with concrete and multiple trades on complex project sites.
