ABOUT

THE ROLE

Techno is looking for an Assistant Resident Engineer to support major transportation and infrastructure construction projects throughout New Jersey. This role will assist in overseeing daily construction operations, contractor coordination, field activities, and project documentation within complex public-sector construction environments.

The ideal candidate has strong field experience supporting heavy civil or transportation projects and is comfortable coordinating with contractors, inspectors, engineers, and client stakeholders to help ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and in accordance with contract requirements.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
  • Support the Resident Engineer with daily oversight of active construction operations on transportation and infrastructure projects.
  • Coordinate with contractors, field inspectors, engineers, consultants, and project stakeholders regarding construction activities, schedules, and project deliverables.
  • Monitor construction progress to verify work is performed in accordance with project plans, specifications, safety requirements, and quality standards.
  • Assist with review of RFIs, submittals, change orders, daily reports, schedules, and other construction documentation.
  • Participate in field inspections, progress meetings, coordination meetings, and project walkthroughs.
  • Track contractor performance, field issues, deficiencies, and corrective actions while supporting timely project resolution efforts.
  • Support schedule monitoring, quantity verification, cost tracking, and project controls coordination activities.
  • Maintain accurate project records, reports, meeting minutes, and construction documentation in accordance with project requirements.
  • Coordinate with operations personnel and project teams to minimize impacts to ongoing transportation services and field operations where applicable.
  • Assist with project closeout activities including punch list coordination, turnover documentation, and final inspections.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience supporting transportation, heavy civil, rail, transit, bridge, or infrastructure construction projects.
  • Experience working on public-sector infrastructure programs strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with construction management procedures, field inspection coordination, contract administration, and project documentation processes.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, contracts, and technical documents.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and coordination skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in active construction environments.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and construction/project management software platforms.
  • Experience working in active rail or transit environments is a plus.
  • EIT, NICET, OSHA certifications, or related industry credentials are desirable.

The expected salary range for this role in New Jersey is $60 - $90 per hour. The total compensation, including salary and bonuses, is determined by various factors such as experience, skill level, location, and qualifications, which are evaluated during the interview process.
