ABOUT

THE ROLE

Techno is seeking an Assistant Resident Engineer to support a once‑in‑a‑generation transportation infrastructure program in New Jersey that will help transform mobility throughout the Northeast Corridor.

This is an exciting opportunity to work on a highly visible, long‑term rail and transportation initiative supporting one of the busiest transit networks in the country. The selected candidate will work closely with agency representatives, project leadership, contractors, and field teams to oversee active construction operations and ensure successful project delivery.

The ideal candidate is a collaborative and proactive professional who thrives in dynamic field environments and brings experience supporting large‑scale public transportation, rail, or heavy civil construction projects.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
  • Support the Resident Engineer in overseeing day‑to‑day construction activities on active transportation infrastructure projects.
  • Coordinate with contractors, inspectors, engineers, consultants, and agency stakeholders to ensure project objectives are achieved.
  • Monitor construction activities to verify compliance with contract documents, specifications, schedules, and quality requirements.
  • Review and support RFIs, submittals, change orders, contractor reports, and construction documentation.
  • Participate in field inspections, progress meetings, technical briefings, and project walkthroughs.
  • Support environmental compliance efforts, mitigation planning, and regulatory requirements throughout project execution.
  • Assist with project controls activities, including schedule tracking, budget monitoring, quantity verification, and cost management.
  • Monitor contractor performance and support resolution of field issues, deficiencies, and corrective actions.
  • Coordinate quality assurance activities, testing requirements, and documentation management.
  • Support implementation of project safety procedures and review contractor safety plans.
  • Maintain accurate records, reports, meeting minutes, and project documentation.
  • Assist with project closeout activities, including punch list coordination, as‑built reviews, warranty tracking, and turnover documentation.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience supporting transportation, rail, transit, tunnel, or heavy civil infrastructure projects.
  • Strong understanding of construction management processes, project controls, field inspection, quality assurance, and contract administration.
  • Experience reviewing construction drawings, specifications, and technical documents.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder coordination skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities within active construction environments.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and construction management software platforms.
  • Must have prior experience supporting projects for New Jersey Transit or similar public transportation agencies.
  • Experience with federally funded infrastructure programs is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with environmental compliance and regulatory requirements is a plus.
  • EIT, NICET, OSHA certifications, or related industry credentials are preferred.
