Franklin Twp YMCA is looking for great individuals who want to make a difference in the lives of the school aged children in our communities. Becoming an After School Counselor will give you an opportunity to expand on skills you will need later on in life including leadership, communication, problem solving, and more. This job is fully on-site, not remote.
Responsibilities- Under the direction of the Associate Program Director and Senior Program Director, supervise a group of children at the site specific location.
- Create relationships with the children and their parents while providing a safe, pleasant and caring atmosphere during the school year.
- Support the work of a nonprofit organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.
- Provide direct supervision of children in an after school site.
- Create positive, nurturing relationships with children, while building cooperative relationships with parents/caregivers.
- Promote the potential of all youth in programs and facilitate peer-to-peer connections as part of the overall camp experience.
- Plan, prepare and implement daily activities for groups of 15-50 children; create innovative games and activities to keep children engaged.
- Teach a variety of activities, supervise field trips, lead games, and manage other small or large group activities.
- Establish relationships with children and their parents; engage each camper by name and communicate to ensure quality, fun and a safe experience.
- Coach and guide site assistants/counselors and children during all activities; communicate group needs with leadership and daily happenings to parents.
- Maintain group belongings (binder, student information sheets, medications when off site, first aid kit) and handle behavior, medical and other incidents, requesting assistance from leadership when necessary.
- Embrace the YMCA Core Values:
Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility; educate members and peers about the YMCA mission and goals. - Attend trainings, seminars and meetings as required.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Must have at least 2 years of experience working with children ages 5-13.
- Experience overseeing staff preferred.
- Knowledge of current education practices.
- Must be able to effectively work with minimal on-site supervision.

- Monday-Friday (Before Care):
Claremont School 7am-9:30am;
Conerly Rd School 7am-9am;
Franklin Park School 7am-9am;
Hillcrest School 7am-9am;
Mac Afee Rd School 7am-9:30am;
Elizabeth Ave School 7am-9:30am. - Monday – Friday (Aftercare):
Claremont School 3:30pm-6pm;
Conerly Rd School 2:45pm-6pm;
Franklin Park School 2:45-6pm;
Hillcrest School 2:45-6pm;
Mac Afee Rd School 3:30pm-6pm;
Elizabeth Ave School 3:30-6pm.
