Posting Summary

Rutgers University - Newark, an urban public research anchor institution, located in Newark, New Jersey, a city of promise, is seeking an Assistant Dean/Assistant Director for the Educational Opportunity Fund Program (EOF) located within the Academic Foundations Center (AFC) and which will report to the Assistant Dean/ Associate Director.

The Assistant Dean has responsibility and oversight for the counseling unit within the Educational Opportunity Fund (EOF) Program. At the heart of the EOF program is a strong academic and social counseling component which serves as a critical anchor to students' intellectual exploration and development.

The Assistant Dean's duties include but are not limited to:

* Overseeing unit meetings, workshops, mentoring, tutoring, and special initiatives

* Evaluating and assessing student needs

* Monitoring program activities and initiatives with service deliverables

* Developing, implementing, and evaluating policies and procedures for the unit and coordinating retention initiatives

* Overseeing the EOF grant payment, roster, internal database, and ensure reconciliation with the various systems/databases.

* Manages the counseling component of the EOF Summer Institute, a five-week summer bridge program serving approx. 110 first-time first-year students. Additionally, developing and implementing the counseling and enrichment initiatives, as well as monitoring the students' progress through the summer.

* Assisting in the preparation of reports required by the university and state

Position Status Full Time Working Hours Standard Hours 37.50 Daily Work Shift Work Arrangement

Consistent with the current application of Rutgers Policy 60.3.22, this position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. The flexible work arrangements outlined in Rutgers Policy 60.3.22 are part of a pilot program that is effective September 1, 2022 through August 31, 2024. Therefore, there is no guarantee that this flexible work arrangement will continue beyond that date. Flexible work arrangements are not permanent, are subject to change or cancellation and contingent on the employee receiving approval in the Flex Work@RU Application System.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience

* The Assistant Dean must have a master's degree in Education, Public Administration, Counseling, Student Development or a related field or commensurate experience.

* The Assistant Dean must have at least three years of responsible educational administrative, research, and training experience with demonstrated ability to perform the duties and accept the responsibilities presented in the aforementioned position description.

Certifications/Licenses Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

* The successful candidate must also demonstrate a knowledge of the unique needs of first-generation, low-income, and/or under-resourced students.
