Position SummaryThe Department of Humanities and Social Sciences at the New Jersey Institute of Technology is seeking to expand its instructional staff in sociology and in particular, to recruit part-time instructors with experience teaching Introduction to Sociology. Opportunities are available for face‑to‑face sections during daytime hours for the Fall 2026 semester. Under the supervision of the Department Chair, the instructor will contribute to the department’s commitment to providing students with a dynamic and innovative educational experience.
The department’s sociology courses are designed to ensure the success of all undergraduate students at a top‑tier polytechnic.
Essential functions include submitting a syllabus at the beginning of the semester, delivering lectures and/or facilitating activities to engage students at all class meetings, assigning written coursework and grading it in a timely manner, providing ongoing feedback, and assigning final grades at the end of the semester. Successful candidates are expected to adhere to academic integrity policies.

Prerequisite Qualifications- Applicants should hold a minimum of a master’s degree in sociology, social/public policy, or a related field and have prior teaching experience at the university level.
- At the university's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be exempted where the candidate can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the university an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.
In compliance with the NJ Pay Transparency Law, the rate for this position is $2668 per contact hour (USD). NJIT considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses or other items.
