The LDTC is an integral member of the network-based Student Support Services and Child Study Team, responsible for driving student growth through comprehensive educational evaluation, compliant case management, data-driven instructional consultation, and strong collaboration with families, educators, and community partners.
This role ensures that students with disabilities receive equitable access to rigorous instruction and individualized supports aligned with IDEA, NJAC 6A:14, and Great Oaks Legacy's commitment to preparing all students for success in college, career, and community.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Learning Disabilities Teacher Consultant is an integral part of the network based special services team and will help drive student growth at Great Oaks Legacy Charter School by observing and evaluating students, collaborating with school based child study team members, and case managing students with disabilities. This is a twelve month position with evaluation and ESY support between June and August.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Evaluation, Assessment, and Eligibility
* Assess learning difficulties of referred students using appropriate educational testing, diagnostic practices, and data analysis.
* Conduct classroom observations to evaluate academic performance, learning behaviors, and access to instruction.
* Review and analyze school-based and state assessment data, attendance, grades, and intervention history.
* Administer educational assessments and participate in eligibility determination and placement recommendations.
* Interpret evaluation results clearly for teachers, families, and multidisciplinary teams.
* Prepare and submit all required evaluation reports and documentation within mandated timelines.
Case Management and Compliance
* Serve as case manager for an assigned caseload, including in-district and out-of-district students.
* Coordinate development, implementation, monitoring, and revision of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
* Maintain accurate and confidential case records and compliance documentation.
* Facilitate communication between school, home, and service providers.
* Attend and lead identification meetings, eligibility meetings, annual reviews, reevaluations, and placement conferences.
* Ensure adherence to NJAC 6A:14 timelines, procedural safeguards, and documentation requirements.
Instructional Consultation and Student Support
* Collaborate with Child Study Team members, school leaders, and educators to support students with disabilities.
* Provide consultation on specialized instruction, interventions, accommodations, and modifications.
* Recommend evidence-based interventions in reading, writing, mathematics, and executive functioning.
* Support inclusive practices that increase access to the general education curriculum.
* Recommend corrective procedures and targeted supports based on student data and progress monitoring.
Data Analysis and Progress Monitoring
* Collect, analyze, and interpret academic, behavioral, and progress-monitoring data to guide decision-making.
* Support accurate completion of IEP progress reports and outcome tracking.
* Use data to evaluate intervention effectiveness, student growth, and program placement.
Collaboration, Family Engagement, and Community Partnership
* Confer with teachers, parents, and guardians to address student needs and progress.
* Cooperate with community health, social service, and truancy agencies as appropriate.
* Participate in school-based resource teams, attendance teams, and multidisciplinary meetings.
* Promote strong family partnerships and shared decision-making.
Professional Development and Staff Capacity Building
* Provide professional development and coaching for staff on:
* NJAC 6A:14 compliance
* Assessment and data interpretation
* Evidence-based interventions for students with disabilities
* Effective accommodations and modifications
* Support school-wide practices that strengthen inclusion, equity, and student achievement.
Qualifications:
Required
* New Jersey Learning Disabilities Teacher Consultant Certification
* Minimum three (3) years of successful teaching experience with demonstrated student growth in an urban school setting
* Strong knowledge of reading and mathematics interventions
* Deep belief that all students can achieve at high levels
* Strong work ethic, organization, and collaboration skills
* Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
Preferred
* Experience coaching or leading teachers (e.g., grade-level chair, department chair, instructional leader)
* Standard teaching certification (TOSD/TOH)
* Administrative certification (Supervisor, Principal, or Administrator endorsement) in New Jersey or another state
* Experience with special education compliance, IEP development, and case management
