Summary:

The School of the Humanities (part of the Maxwell Becton College of Arts and Sciences) at Fairleigh Dickinson University seeks part‑time (adjunct) faculty to teach in‑person sections of Ethics and possibly other Philosophy courses starting in Spring 2024. Sections are 3 credit hours and meet Monday‑Thursday, Tuesday‑Friday, or as a double block on different days including Wednesday. The instructor may teach one course or several, and successful candidates will have teaching opportunities every semester going forward.

In the immediate Spring 2024 semester (starting January 22) we need three sections of Ethics, scheduled Monday & Thursday 10:00 AM–11:15 AM and 11:30 AM–12:45 PM, and Tuesday & Friday 10:00 AM–11:15 AM Eastern. These meet in person on the Florham Campus at 285 Madison Avenue, Madison, NJ; online instruction would only be considered for an exceptional candidate.

Responsibilities:

  • Teach three sections of Ethics in an engaging, interactive, student‑focused manner.
  • Develop and deliver course materials and assessments aligned with the college’s General Education requirements.
  • Participate in faculty meetings and maintain communication with the department chair.

Qualifications:

  • PhD in Philosophy (preferred) or an advanced degree in Philosophy or a related field.
  • Specialization in ethics or experience in teaching ethics or moral philosophy.
  • Evidence of teaching effectiveness and a commitment to student learning.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree may be considered in lieu of a PhD.
  • Background in theology or religious instruction, provided teaching is secular and non‑affiliated with any particular religious viewpoint.

Employment is contingent upon a satisfactory background check. Candidates must sign a waiver authorizing the background check and provide a Social Security Card.
