Position Details
College & Career Institute Instructor (Multiple Vacancies) – Precollege Programs Center, Rutgers University‑Newark. This part‑time, temporary position reports to the Program Manager‑Pre College Academy. The role primarily involves providing instruction in Composition & Literature, Mathematics, Science, and various elective courses for grades 6‑12 during summer programs (late June to mid‑August, Monday‑Thursday) and academic year programs (every other Saturday) aligned with Essex County school districts.
FLSA:
Nonexempt. Salary: $25–$35 per hour, payable hourly.
Working hours:
19.5 hours per week, fully on‑site. Position status: part time, temporary staff appointment – hourly.
- Prepare course materials (syllabi, presentations, hand‑outs, reading materials).
- Create and facilitate team‑building and mentoring workshops for middle and high school students.
- Collaborate with colleagues on course curriculum to enhance student learning and meet program objectives.
- Attend on‑site training sessions and complete necessary online modules.
Minimum
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and/or experience. Up to two years relevant experience in an administrative function, good communication and interpersonal skills, and computer literacy.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Content knowledge based on academic discipline (Algebra I, I‑Strong Science curriculum provided, Composition & Literature/English 9‑12, History, College Readiness and Career Preparation).
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree preferred; teaching experience, licensing, and credentials; experience with low‑income, first‑generation populations; demonstrated teaching philosophy encouraging active and independent learning; criminal background check and three professional references; lab experience requested for science courses.
