As the first Rutgers‑Newark special program established to identify talent beyond traditional measures and then recruit, retain, and graduate talented young people from the greater Newark area, AFC remains a jewel in the crown of Rutgers‑Newark, serving nearly 1,500 undergraduate students annually.

Rutgers University – Newark (RU‑N), an urban public research university and anchor institution located in Newark, New Jersey, is seeking an English Teaching Assistant for the EOF Summer Program 2026. This temporary, hourly position provides academic and administrative support to the assigned faculty member and program activities, including attendance at subject‑area classes and meetings, facilitation of English workshops and foundation sessions, tutoring, and supervision of lunch sessions.
The assistant will also attend the Faculty/Staff Orientation on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, the tutor training session on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, may participate in the Leadership Activity on Sunday, June 28, 2026, and attend the summer closing ceremony on Wednesday, July 29, 2026.
- Provide academic and administrative support to the assigned faculty member and program activities.
- Attend subject area classes and meetings as required, including two pre‑meetings.
- Facilitate English workshop and foundation sessions.
- Provide tutoring as necessary.
- Supervise lunch sessions as assigned.
- Attend Faculty/Staff Orientation on Wednesday, June 24, 2026 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
- Attend the tutor training session on Wednesday, June 24, 2026 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
- May attend and participate in the Leadership Activity on Sunday, June 28, 2026.
- Attend the summer closing ceremony on Wednesday, July 29, 2026.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
- Up to two years of relevant experience in an administrative function, good communication and interpersonal skills, and computer literacy.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, proficiency in academic writing, grammar, and reading comprehension.
- Experience working with diverse student populations.
- Ability to provide one‑on‑one and small‑group academic support.
- Ability to work collaboratively with faculty and staff.
$15.92 to $22.00 per hour.
