Position: Full Time Faculty – Spanish Language and Culture

The Bard Early Colleges, tuition-free, satellite campuses of Bard College operated through partnerships with public school systems,are founded on the belief that many high-school-age students areeager and ready for the intellectual challenges of a college education.

Bard High School Early College (BHSEC) Newark, a partnershipbetween Bard College and the Newark Public Schools (NPS) in Newark,NJ, invites applications for a full-time faculty position in World Languages (Spanish), which begins in the Fall Semester (August
2026).

Through a tuition-free, credit-bearing college program in the liberal arts and sciences with robust supports, BHSEC schools helphigh school age students, particularly those at risk of not completing postsecondary education, access, afford, and complete college prepared to contribute to the workforce and civic life. AtBHSEC Newark, students have the opportunity to earn up to 60college credits and an associate in arts (A.A.) degree from Bard College, concurrently with a high school diploma from the Newark Board of Education (NBOE).

We are seeking educators passionate about their fields of study and committed to advancing equity through rigorous curricula made accessible to students with varied academic preparation. The successful applicant for this position must be committed to teaching classes at both the high school and college levels. In addition, you will be expected to participate fully in the life ofthe school, including student advising, club advising, and committee service.

Candidates for a full-time faculty position in Spanish must be ableto teach Spanish language at all levels; this requirement forms thecore teaching duties of this position. The successful candidate will teach Spanish I, a 9th-grade course, as well as intermediate

Spanish and college-level courses in Spanish, as needed.

In addition, the ability to teach Spanish and Latin Americanliterature or culture teachable in English is desirable as theperiodic teaching of these courses is an academicrequirement.

Compensation

This is an NBOE position. The salary range is $70,000 to $114,750.

  • Ph.D. Preferred
  • Master's Degree Required
  • College teaching experience required
  • High school teaching experience and/or experience working with youth desirable.
  • Work authorization in the United States required for all BHSECNewark faculty positions. We cannot sponsor visas for this position.
