The Newark Board of Education invites qualified and interested persons to apply for the position of Teacher of Carpentry. The role focuses on delivering carpentry instruction and related responsibilities to students.
Basic Functions and Responsibilities- Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
- Evaluate student progress regularly and prepare progress reports.
- Instruct pupils in citizenship, basic communication skills, and other general elements of the course of study common to all teachers, as specified by state law.
- Provide individual, small group, and large group instruction, adapting the curriculum to students with varying intellectual and special abilities.
- Instruct pupils in proper care and use of textbooks, equipment, and materials.
- Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior needed for an orderly and productive environment.
- Select and requisition books, instructional materials, equipment, aids, and maintain required inventory records.
- Develop instructional plans and organize class time to provide a balanced program of instruction.
- Develop and maintain professional competence through participation in in‑service education activities provided by the district and in self‑selected professional growth activities.
- Supervise out‑of‑classroom activities for pupils during the assigned working day, as required.
- Plan and coordinate the work of aides, teacher assistants, and other paraprofessionals.
- Identify pupils' needs and cooperate with other professional staff members to assess and help pupils solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
- Communicate with parents and pupil personnel staff members on the individual pupil's progress and development.
- Maintain attendance accounting and business service as required.
- Develop and participate in the sponsorship of student activities and faculty committees.
- Act as a resource person on an interdepartmental level to relate appropriate aspects of his/her subject area to other subject areas.
- Work to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning the academic and behavioral progress of all assigned students.
- Perform other duties and tasks assigned by Supervisor.
