Full-time Faculty - World History
Bard High School Early College (BHSEC) Newark, a partnership between Bard College and the Newark Public Schools, invites applications for a full-time faculty position in Global History beginning August 2026. The faculty member will teach high school global history as well as college courses concurrently, earning up to 60 college credits toward an associate in arts (A.A.) degree.
Position DescriptionThe successful applicant will design and deliver rigorous world history survey courses, covering major global processes such as the Atlantic World, the Age of Revolutions, Slavery and the slave trade, Industrialization, Empire and capitalism, Globalization, and post‑colonial independence movements. Expertise in African, Middle Eastern, East Asian, or other regional histories is desirable for elective offerings. Candidates from social science fields (e.g., political science, geography, sociology, anthropology) may apply, provided they can teach world history.
Responsibilities- Teach high‑school and college‑level world history courses.
- Develop and deliver curriculum that meets equity and rigor standards.
- Advising students and leading clubs or extracurricular activities.
- Serve on school committees and participate fully in school life.
- Engage with high‑school age students pursuing college‑level coursework.
- Ph.D. in history or a closely related social science field.
- College‑level teaching experience required; high‑school teaching experience and/or youth‑work experience desirable.
- Demonstrated commitment to equity, social justice, and inclusive pedagogy.
- Ability to recognize and reduce barriers to inclusion.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
Salary range: $70,000 to $114,750.
