The Superintendent invites qualified and interested persons to apply for the position of Department Chairperson – Physical Education, Health and Athletics.

  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of successful experience in teaching Physical Education and Health as well as in Coaching.
  • Demonstrated leadership in the organization and administration of a school-level athletic program.
  • Ability to maintain a positive learning environment and high standards of conduct for student-athletes.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status. As defined in 6A:9-9 Instructional certificates
Basic Functions and Responsibilities I. Management and Coaching of Instructional Staff
  • Observes, coaches, and evaluates assigned faculty and staff and provides ongoing professional development for targeted improvement in identified growth areas.
  • Completes all activities in accordance with state and district standards and according to the district's timelines.
  • Collaborates with the Principal in the selection of coaches.
  • Assumes the orientation and mentor responsibilities of all teachers and faculty.
II. Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment
  • Serves as leader and expert in the area of Physical Education, Health and Athletics.
  • Organizes and administers the school's program of co-curricular athletics and assumes responsibility for the scheduling of all interscholastic athletic events.
  • Ensures assigned faculty is properly equipped with district approved curriculum resources and meets all certification requirements set forth by the NJDOE and NJSIAA.
  • Reviews and approves lesson plans, assessments, and grades, and certifies alignment to the State's Standards with articulation, integration, and implementation of district approved curriculum through and across grade levels and content areas.
  • Develops and implements appropriate rules and regulations governing the conduct of athletic activities and ensures compliance with the rules promulgated by the NJSIAA.
  • Conducts model lessons that demonstrate best practices and differentiated techniques for exemplary implementation of various learning objectives.
  • Collaborates with district-wide Director of Health, Physical Education and Athletics in the research and implementation of best practices.
  • Collaborates with Teaching and Learning in the research and implementation of best practices in curriculum, instruction, and student assessments.
  • Prepares, analyzes, and communicates quarterly student achievement data reports and makes program recommendations according to student needs.
  • Collaborates with the Principal and Vice Principal(s) in adhering to the secondary course sequence and scheduling guidelines for college and career readiness.
  • Oversees and manages all aspects of athletics programs in accordance with district and State regulations; demonstrates an understanding of the regulations regarding the operation of an athletic program.
  • Determines athletic offerings in collaboration with the Principal.
  • Monitors and ensures the academic and physical eligibility of all athletes.
  • Manages the purchase of all uniforms and equipment.
  • Coordinated transportation to and from all games and practices.
  • Attends required county, conference and athletic association meetings.
