The Culinary Instructor is a full-time, on-site role based in Newark, NJ. This role is responsible for planning, organizing, and delivering culinary instruction to participants, including hands‑on classes in cooking, baking, and kitchen safety. The instructor designs lesson plans and curricula that align with program goals, teaches both fundamental and advanced culinary techniques, and provides ongoing feedback and coaching to support learner progress.
Daily responsibilities include managing classroom and kitchen environments, maintaining equipment and supplies, enforcing health and safety standards, and collaborating with program staff to support student success and job readiness. The Culinary Instructor also participates in program development, evaluation, and outreach activities as needed.
- Strong culinary foundation with skills in Cooking, Baking, and general Culinary Skills.
- Culinary Management experience, including kitchen operations, inventory, and adherence to health and safety standards.
- Training experience, with the ability to instruct, mentor, and assess learners in a classroom and hands‑on kitchen setting.
- Professional culinary training or certification; a degree from a culinary school or related program is highly beneficial.
- Experience working in community‑based, educational, or workforce development programs is a plus.
- Ability to communicate clearly, demonstrate techniques effectively, and support learners from diverse backgrounds.
- Strong organizational skills, reliability, and commitment to NCC’s mission of community empowerment.
