The Superintendent invites qualified and interested persons to apply for the position of Supervisor of Special Education, within the Office of Special Education.
Qualifications And Requirements- An appropriate New Jersey Department of Education Standard Certificate
- Master's degree from an accredited college or university
- Minimum of three (3) years of successful experience in school or district level administration
- Minimum of four (4) years successful experience in teaching special education or providing related services within a special education or intervention program
- Knowledge of New Jersey Student Learning Standards for curriculum, assessment and instruction
- Demonstrated knowledge of subject specialty and effective teaching methods
- Ability to plan, organize and administer a district-level professional development program
- Ability to maintain a positive learning environment
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Knowledge of New Jersey Administrative Code Title 6A Chapter 14
- Knowledge of special education placement, compliance, and EasyIEP or other electronic database that stores Individualized Education Programs (IEP)
- Ability to complete comprehensive special education reviews, including recommendations for programmatic improvement and compliance management
- Observes, coaches, and evaluates special education staff, providing ongoing professional development
- Provides constructive feedback to principals, vice principals, department chairs, and CST members on student achievement and program improvement
- Monitors all Teach NJ Educator Effectiveness activities (IPDP/CAP), observations, and evaluations of special education staff
- Monitors student progress and program effectiveness
- Assumes orientation and mentor responsibilities for all novice special education staff
- Collaborates with parents, school administrators, and external agencies
- Synthesizes quarterly reports from special education and presents reviews at various forums throughout the school year
- Serves as a lead in the area of special education
- Participates in district-level planning and policy development
- Supports the district's textbook adoption committee, ensuring resources meet state standards and diverse needs
- Supports the development of comprehensive resource inventory and distribution
- Supports the development of all special education diagnostics, interim assessments, district assessments, mid-term and final exams
- Collaborates with the Supervisors of Bilingual and ESL services and special assistants to tailor curriculum guides, units of study, resources, and assessments for all learners
- Collaborates with district directors and supervisors to align curriculum guides, units of study, resources, and assessments to state standards and create interdisciplinary opportunities
- Establishes and executes organizational systems and strategies to monitor district goals
- Develops and monitors strategies for high-level collaboration among faculty and staff
- Communicates effectively and maintains a positive disposition to promote student achievement, staff development, and district-wide success
- Performs other duties assigned by the director or assistant superintendent of student support
- Oversees planning, implementation, and evaluation of special education programs to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations

Salary, Employment Period and Union Affiliation- Salary range: $107,500 - $143,500*

City Association of Supervisors and Administrators (C.A.S.A.) - Pending contract negotiations
