Position Summary

The Director of Secondary Education is responsible for planning, implementing, and monitoring the comprehensive educational programming for grades 7-12 in all curricular areas to ensure high levels of student achievement.

Qualifications
  • Hold a New Jersey certificate as Principal or School Administrator in accordance with the requirements of N.J.A.C. 6A:9B-12.5 or N.J.A.C. 6A:9B-12.4, respectively.
  • Hold a Master’s Degree in Administration or a related area.
  • Have a minimum of five consecutive years of documented and proven public school administration experience. This experience shall immediately precede the application for this job description’s position.
  • Strong knowledge of, and experience in, data analysis, curriculum development and implementation.
  • Other qualifications as may be required as determined by the Superintendent of Schools.
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal.
  • Hold a valid driver’s license with no serious infractions.
  • Troubleshooting:
    Be able to find the root cause of issues and think logically about solutions.
  • Critical Thinking:
    When diagnosing problems, think critically in their process of resolving the issue.
  • Knowledge:
    Perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percentages, and/or ratios; read technical information, compose a variety of documents, and/or facilitate group discussions; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: concepts of grammar and punctuation; develop, implement and maintain teacher support and training programs; understand District curriculum and content standards;

    understand District organization, operations, policies and objectives; apply principles and practices of administration, supervision and training; provide training and work direction; apply appropriate codes, laws, regulations, policies and procedures; operate a computer and assigned software and maintain records and prepare reports.
  • Ability:
    Schedule activities, meetings, and/or events; often gather, collate, and/or classify data; and use job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to independently work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with a variety of data;

    and utilize job-related equipment. Problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data frequently requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is limited to moderate. Specific ability-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adapt to changing work priorities; display tact and courtesy; establish and maintain effective working relationships;

    maintain confidentiality; meet deadlines and schedules; set priorities; work as part of a team; assess, consult, and train teachers to enhance educational skills; serve as a resource concerning program services and activities; facilitate department and program goals and objectives; analyze situations and adopt an effective course of action; supervise performance of assigned personnel and maintain consistent and punctual attendance; communicating with diverse groups;

    meeting deadlines and schedules; working as part of a team; working independently and with interruptions; and, complying with Board of Education policies and regulations.
  • Possess ability to work effectively and efficiently alone, and cooperatively with other personnel.
  • Be self-driven, possess excellent initiative, integrity, and good moral character.
  • Exhibit personality traits that demonstrate interpersonal skills that relate well to students, staff, administration, parents, and the community.
