POSITION OVERVIEW

At Newark Board of Education, we aim to provide a world‑class education for every student. Your role as Vice Principal supports the school's principal by leading initiatives that enable a thriving school that supports each student’s academic success and well‑being. You assist in planning, organizing, and supervising day‑to‑day operations, guiding teachers in meeting instructional goals, and may plan events such as Back to School Night or lead professional development.

WHAT

NBOE VICE PRINCIPALS DO
  • Assist the Principal
    • Collaborate with the Principal to develop and implement the school's strategic goals, policies, and procedures.
    • Support the Principal in managing the overall operations and administration of the school.
    • Shift time allocations flexibly when priorities and circumstances change.
  • Instructional Leadership
    • Collaborate with teachers and academic staff to promote excellence in teaching and learning.
    • Monitor student progress, identify areas for improvement, and support staff in implementing appropriate interventions.
    • Foster a positive and inclusive school culture and a safe and respectful learning environment.
  • Staff Supervision and Development
    • Support the recruitment, selection, and evaluation processes for staff.
    • Provide guidance and mentorship to teachers, assisting them in their professional growth.
    • Coordinate professional development activities to enhance staff skills and knowledge.
    • Encourage and enable collaboration and teamwork among faculty and staff.
  • Student, Family, and Community Engagement
    • Collaborate with stakeholders to develop student support programs and initiatives.
    • Foster positive relationships with parents, guardians, and the wider community.
    • Address student and parent concerns, facilitating effective communication and conflict resolution.
    • Oversee student conduct and discipline, including adherence to district policies and procedures.
    • Monitor student attendance and conduct appropriate interventions as needed.
    • Organize and participate in parent–teacher conferences, school events, and community outreach programs.
    • Represent the school at relevant meetings, conferences, and external events.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
  • Master's Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • New Jersey Principal Standard Certificate or a Certificate of Eligibility for Principal.
  • Demonstrated successful experience increasing student achievement as a teacher, utilizing a variety of approaches that emphasize inclusion and culturally responsive practice.
  • Demonstrated successful experience supporting or leading school‑wide initiatives.
SALARY, EMPLOYMENT PERIOD, AND UNION AFFILIATION
  • Salary Range: $106,700 - $140,000 (Pending salary negotiations)
  • Union Affiliation:
    City Association of Supervisors and Administrators (CASA)
