Department Chairperson Physical Education and Health

Roger León, District Superintendent invites qualified applicants to apply for the position of Department Chairperson Physical Education and Health. (Pending availability of funds and Board of Education's approval).

• An appropriate New Jersey Department of Education Standard Certificate as deemed necessary by https://(Use the "Apply for this Job" box below)..
• Master's degree from an accredited college or university.
• Three (3) to five (5) years of successful experience in teaching Physical Education and Health.
• Demonstrated knowledge of subject specialty and effective teaching methods.
• Ability to maintain a positive learning environment.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status as defined in N.J.A.C. 6A:9-9 Instructional certificates.

• Observes, coaches, and evaluates assigned faculty and staff and provides ongoing professional development for targeted improvement.
• Completes all activities in accordance with state and district standards and the district's timelines.
• Assumes the orientation and mentor responsibilities of all teachers.

• Serves as leader and expert in the area of Physical Education and Health.
• Ensures faculty is properly equipped with district‑approved curriculum resources.
• Reviews and approves lesson plans, assessments, and grades, and certifies alignment to the State's Standards with articulation, integration, and implementation of district‑approved curriculum throughout grade levels.
• Conducts model lessons demonstrating best practices and differentiated techniques for exemplary implementation of various learning objectives.
• Collaborates with Teaching and Learning in research and implementation of best practices in curriculum, instruction, and student assessments.
• Prepares, analyzes, and communicates quarterly student achievement data reports and recommends programs according to student needs.
• Collaborates with the Principal and Vice Principal(s) in adhering to the secondary course sequence and scheduling guidelines for college and career readiness.
• Assumes teaching responsibilities in areas identified by the Principal when necessary.

• Promotes and leads a positive school‑wide climate and culture that fosters pride and academic achievement.
• Engages families and community stakeholders around the vision and mission of the school and district.
• Supports gifted and at‑risk students with academic and social/emotional needs by facilitating interventions and activities that promote achievement and leadership.
• Monitors implementation of Individualized Education Program (IEP) and Prevention/Early Intervention (I&RS) action steps to ensure compliance with State and Federal regulations.
• Recommends and monitors implementation of positive behavior supports to enhance a positive school‑wide climate and scholarly culture leading to academic achievement.

• Establishes and executes organizational systems and strategies to monitor student, faculty, school, and district goals.
• Develops and monitors strategies for high‑level collaboration among faculty and staff.
• Communicates effectively and maintains a positive disposition in all circumstances to promote student academic achievement, faculty and staff professional development, and school‑wide success.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Principal or district‑wide Director of Health, Physical Education and Athletics.

Principal or Designee

• Salary Range: $92,000 - $128,000 (Pending salary negotiations)
• Employment Period:
  Eleven (11) months
• Union Affiliation: CASA
