Position Overview
At Newark Board of Education, we aim to provide a world‑class education for every student. Our vice principals help bring this vision to life by supporting the principal and leading efforts to enable a thriving school that supports each student’s academic success and well‑being. They assist in planning, organizing, and supervising day‑to‑day operations and guide teachers in meeting instructional goals. An elementary vice principal may plan Back to School Night, lead professional development, manage staff and student interactions, and help foster a positive learning environment.

- Assist the Principal
- Collaborate to develop and implement strategic goals, policies, and procedures.
- Support the Principal in managing overall operations and administration.
- Allocate time flexibly when priorities and circumstances change.
- Instructional Leadership
- Collaborate with teachers to promote excellence in teaching and learning.
- Monitor student progress, identify areas for improvement, and support staff with interventions.
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and safe learning environment.
- Staff Supervision and Development
- Support recruitment, selection, and evaluation processes.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to teachers for professional growth.
- Coordinate professional development activities.
- Encourage collaboration and teamwork among faculty and staff.
- Student, Family, and Community Engagement
- Collaborate with stakeholders to develop support programs and initiatives.
- Build positive relationships with parents, guardians, and the wider community.
- Address concerns and facilitate communication and conflict resolution.
- Oversee student conduct and discipline, including adherence to district policies.
- Monitor attendance and intervene as needed.
- Organize and participate in conferences, events, and outreach programs.
- Represent the school at relevant meetings, conferences, and external events.
- Believe all students can succeed at high levels and focus on improving outcomes.
- Prioritize and allocate limited time strategically, adapting to changing conditions.
- Collaborate, follow others’ lead, and motivate others toward improvement.
- Use effective planning, instructional strategies, assessment, and intervention to improve outcomes.
- Provide coaching and feedback that addresses root issues and motivates growth.
- Apply an equity lens and implement strategies to address inequities and biases.
- Continuously reflect, learn, and adjust actions to improve.
- Act ethically and fairly at all times.
- Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university.
- New Jersey Principal Standard Certificate or a Certificate of Eligibility for Principal.
- Demonstrated successful experience increasing student achievement as a teacher using inclusive, culturally responsive practices.
- Demonstrated successful experience supporting or leading school‑wide initiatives.
Principal
Salary, Employment Period, and Union Affiliation- Salary Range: $106,700 – $140,000 (Pending negotiations)
- Employment Period:
Eleven (11) months - Union Affiliation:
City Association of Supervisors and Administrators (CASA)
