Special Assistant of Instruction – Confidential

The Superintendent invites qualified and interested individuals to apply for the position of Confidential Special Assistant Instructional supporting the work of the School Leadership Team.

Definition

The Confidential Special Assistant – Instructional will serve as a liaison, point of contact, and primary support individual between the School Leadership Team ("SLT") and the designated schools served by the SLT to ensure that students receive outstanding instructional support and services.

Responsibilities
  • Implement strategic initiatives in alignment with the District's vision for instructional practices, dedicating a minimum of 75% of work time at SLT schools to support, coach, and mentor school administrators.
  • Focus school administrators on student outcomes and teacher quality while assisting with management of school resources, including identifying appropriate additional resources as necessary.
  • Work with school administrators to establish specific and targeted student performance goals and metrics.
  • Support school administrators with the implication and management of required panels and committees under the NTU labor agreement (e.g., School Improvement Panel, Curriculum Committee, Framework Evaluation Committee, School Leadership Council, Professional Learning Community, etc.).
  • Design and deliver professional development opportunities for SLT school administrators to enhance knowledge and skills in instructional leadership and evaluation of teacher quality.
  • Provide technical assistance to school administrators and teachers.
  • Conduct regular formal and informal classroom walk-throughs aligned to student achievement and strategic goals.
  • Evaluate teaching staff as necessary.
  • Assist with daily school operations, including managing school-based schedules, coordinating events, and maintaining records as directed by the School Leadership Team.
  • Serve as liaison between school leaders and operational departments (budgeting, purchasing, human resource services, facilities, security and safety, inventory management) ensuring compliance with district policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent of the SLT.
Knowledge And Abilities
  • Strong knowledge of instructional best practices and the ability to lead others to implement these practices consistently across multiple schools and classrooms.
  • Knowledge of standard and innovative teacher training practices and substantial understanding of the principles, practices, and coordination methods as they apply to education program management.
  • Deep understanding of pedagogy and experience in using data to drive results.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school administrators, teachers, and other school site personnel.
  • Ability to prepare clear, concise correspondence and reports containing findings, conclusions, and recommendations.
  • Computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint).
Qualifications And Requirements
  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Five (5) years of teaching experience, plus three (3) years of administrative experience.
  • Principal Standard Certificate or Certificate of Eligibility.

Reports To: Assistant Superintendent

Salary
: $125,000–$170,000

Employment Period: Twelve (12) months
