Qualifications and Requirements
  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • New Jersey Department of Education Principal Standard (Preferred) and/or Supervisor Standard license.
  • Valid New Jersey Science Teaching Certificate.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of successful experience in school or district level administration.
  • Minimum of four (4) years of successful experience in teaching Science.
  • Knowledge of New Jersey Student Learning Standards for curriculum, assessment and instruction.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of subject specialty and effective teaching methods.
  • Ability to plan, organize and administer a district‑level professional development program.
  • Ability to maintain a positive learning environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Basic Functions and Responsibilities
  • Management and Coaching of Instructional Staff
    • Observes, coaches, and evaluates teachers and department chairs, providing ongoing professional development for targeted improvement.
    • Provides constructive feedback to principals, vice principals and department chairs on student achievement and implementation of curricular programs.
    • Monitors Teach NJ Educator Effectiveness activities, observations, and evaluations of department chairs and teachers of Science.
    • Validates evaluation ratings of department chairs of Science.
    • Assumes orientation and mentor responsibilities for novice department chairs and teachers.
    • Leverages department chairs, teacher coaches and academic interventionists to maximize implementation of district‑approved curricular guides and intervention strategies.
    • Synthesizes science achievement quarterly reports and presents a comprehensive review at various forums.
  • Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment
    • Serves as a lead in the area of Science.
    • Authors, updates and furnishes rigorous science curriculum guides, units of study, bridge manuals and technological resources to the district.
    • Supports the district’s textbook adoption committee, ensuring resources meet state standards and student needs.
    • Supports the development of a comprehensive strategy to inventory and distribute curricular resources.
    • Supports development of all science diagnostics, interim assessments, district assessments, mid‑term and final exams.
    • Collaborates with supervisors of Bilingual and ESL services and special assistants of special education to tailor curriculum, resources and assessments.
    • Collaborates with all district directors and supervisors to ensure alignment with state standards and interdisciplinary opportunities.
  • Organizational Leadership
    • Establishes and executes organizational systems and strategies to monitor department chairs, teacher coaches and district goals.
    • Develops and monitors strategies for high‑level collaboration among faculty and staff.
    • Communicates effectively and maintains a positive disposition in all circumstances to promote student achievement, staff development and district success.
    • Performs other duties as assigned by the Department Director or Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning.

    Salary, Terms & Affiliation
    • Salary: $107,500 – $143,500
    • Employment Period:
      Twelve (12) months
    • Union Affiliation:
      City Association of Supervisors and Administrators (C.A.S.A.)
