As Principal, you will lead and inspire a vibrant community of creative thinkers, fostering a culture rooted in innovation, collaboration, and artistic excellence. You will set and advance the school's vision, build strategic partnerships with industry leaders, and ensure students are prepared to thrive in an ever‑evolving media landscape.
Position OverviewNewark Board of Education Principals create, lead, and take responsibility for student‑centered schools that prepare Newark students to be innovators of the future. Principals are responsible for all aspects of school programs, maximizing the school's impact on students’ academic success and social and emotional development. They hold all students and staff accountable for meeting high expectations and are accountable for instruction, personnel management, and operations.
Principals ensure schools provide equity of educational opportunity and utilize culturally responsive practices to promote each student's academic success and well‑being. This role is aligned to the Professional Standards for Educational Leaders.
Qualifications and Requirements- Master's degree from an accredited college or university.
- New Jersey Principal Standard Certificate or a Certificate of Eligibility for Principal.
- Demonstrated successful building‑level administrative or supervisory experience.
- Demonstrated success in increasing student achievement and effective staff development at the building level, emphasizing inclusion and acceptance.
- Preferred: background or experience in visual arts or fashion.
- Belief that all students can achieve at high levels and ability to lead a team that provides differentiated support.
- Capability to grow diverse, inclusive teams that respect student and staff cultures and backgrounds.
- Experience creating and executing strategic plans to meet ambitious goals.
- Reflective mindset, actively seeking opportunities to develop personally, the team, and students.
- Strong communication skills with students, staff, families, and community members from diverse backgrounds.
- Record of improving student achievement as a highly-skilled educator.
- Expertise in coaching teachers to improve practice and in developing other administrators.
- Ability to create school environments where students and staff feel safe, respected, and empowered.
- Provides actionable feedback to teachers and administrators, implements the Board’s evaluation system with fidelity, and coaches teachers and administrators to improve instruction and student outcomes.
- Creates and implements a Professional Development Plan that responds to collective and individual teacher and staff needs.
- Strategically manages staff resources, assigning and scheduling teachers to maximize impact on student success.
- Ensures the implementation of intellectually rigorous and coherent curriculum, instruction, and assessment aligned to state standards, with emphasis on the NJSLA standards.
- Monitors programs and engages in continuous reflection and improvement to drive student outcomes.
- Ensures instructional practice is intellectually challenging, authentic to student experiences, and differentiated.
- Provides a coherent system of academic and social supports, services, extra‑curricular activities, and accommodations for all student learning needs.
